This photograph shows President Syngman Rhee riding a train across the reopened Hangang Railway Bridge in 1951. The bridge was temporarily restored in 1951, partially in 1957, and fully in 1969, and it remains in use today.
Continuous U.S. aid during and after the war supported South Korea’s reconstruction efforts, funding projects such as restoring the Hangang Railway Bridge.
