Seoul coexists with the primitive. As Seoul embraces the original fortress city, Hanyang, two chronologically different cities share the same physical boundary, like the shape of a tree ring. Even though the fortress borders were gradually blurred by modernization, some of the cut walls coexist with the urban fabric, leaving deformed scars in plain sight. Zeitgeist asks us to restore the broken wall on behalf of the junkspace era. However, we manifest that the physical wall itself is deeply far from the essence of Hanyang fortress. Rather, the essence is more about forming the order of people’s daily life. This implies Seoul should not merely rebuild the physical wall, but respect the essential and primitive linkage in each of the orthogonal sections.
