This is an oil sketch for the figure of the Prince in Wilkie's depiction of Princess Victoria's first presentation at Court (OM 1187, 404710) of 1831. Presumably this was a study made from the life - its liveliness is certainly astonishing and shows Wilkie competing with Rubens amongst the old masters and Sir Thomas Lawrence amongst his contemporaries.
