Prince Hall (c.1735-1807) was the founder of the African Masonic Order and a founding leader of Boston's free black community. Prince Hall is buried in Copp's Hill Burying Ground in Boston's North End. This monument was erected at the gravesite by the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Massachusetts on June 24, 1895. Both Hamilton Sutton Smith and his father John J. Smith were members of the Prince Hall Masons.
