Ceremonial Portrait of Prince Mihailo Obrenović from 1859–1860 was attributed to Johann Böss (1822–1887), a painter from Pest. It was commissioned by Anastas Jovanović (1817–1899), a prominent Serbian photographer and lithographer who collaborated with Böss in Vienna. It is a monumental portrait of the Prince in a ceremonial dolman. The Prince's ruling position is depicted by clothes, insignia, decorations and feather hat. The main function of this portrait was to represent the ruler's strength and power. The portrait belonged to Anastas Jovanović, the Chief of Prince Mihailo Obrenović’s Cabinet, and it was a reflection of the close and confidential relationship between the Prince and the chief of his cabinet.
