This is probably one of the most genuinely neo-Classical portraits ever painted by Vicente López. The delicacy of the skin-tones, polished like marble, the extreme hardness of the outline, worthy of the goldsmith…, make this portrait the supreme example of the fleeting impact which neo-Classical thinking had on López`s portraiture. The painting is an excellent example of Vicente López `s work as court portrait painter, in his position as King Ferdinand VII`s First Court Painter.
