Printing press, reconstructed from a drawing by Albrecht Dürer from 1511

The printing press, made mainly of wood, is technically consistent with the period around 1500. Designed on the basis of a drawing of Dürer's from the year 1511, it was built by employees at MAN in Nuremberg in 1970 to be usable for demonstrations.

A piece of equipment like this was essential when producing woodcuts in large runs. Having it right there at the artist's workshop also made a certain degree of quality control possible, since the whole graphic process, from design to print, could be supervised by the master.
