"In 1970 I was locked up for the 2nd time at Con Dao Prison, in a "tiger cage". We did not wash ourselves for three months; we had only two small cans of water a day to drink. It was very hot. To wash ourselves we wrapped ourselves in a nyln piece and whle we sweated we rubbed ourselves. Women often wore their hair short. The short hair we cut off were transformed into a broom to clean the place before sleeping. I picked up the longest hair to braid a rope more than 3 meters long, which I stretched across the cage with two small pins pushed in the wall, to dry my clothes."
