This photographic image is associated with the pension file of Ellen J. Shields, widow of Private John Shields, and was originally submitted as proof in the claim. The front of the tintype folder is stamped “U.S. Pension Office (Received) Nov. 13, 1886.” Reverse of image is stamped “Cabinet Portraits, T.W. Gridland, 12 North Main Street, Opposite Court House, Dayton, Ohio.” Reverse of the tintype folder is marked in handwritten text “86543, John Shields” and stamped “U.S. Pension Office and Agents Division (Received) Nov. 13, 1886.”
