Pro-bicycling banner

‘Yarn-bombings’ are colourful artwork displays usually knitted or crocheted from yarn, wool or fibrous material. ‘Yarn-bombing’ as street art can be used as a means of protest, and to bring attention to a cause. This creative form of graffiti has featured in many public locations such as trees, street poles and, as seen in this image, fencing where a pro-bicycling banner has been knitted. The banner (artist unknown) that hangs on the Centennial Park overpass is a bright blue piece which also includes pink text, green embroidery and orange and dark blue patches. The photograph was taken by UNSW criminologist A/Prof Alyce McGovern, as part of a project looking into yarn bombing and the wider phenomenon of 'craftivism' entitled "Stitching to resist: Pussyhats, knitting nannas and social justice craftivism."
