Tallinn City Museum
Tallinn, Estonia

This painting by Maksimilian Maxolly from the 1920s offers an idealised depiction of the proclamation of Estonian indepence on 24 February 1924 in Tallinn by the members of the Salvation Committe: Jüri Vilms, Konstanti Päts, and Konstantin Konik.
Though it has been often criticised as a work of art, it is a historic document of utmost value for Estonia. It is one of the very few artworks depicting scenes from the Estonian War of Independence that escaped destruction during the Soviet occupation by being tucked away in archives of the Tallinn City Museum.
