Production image from Peter Hall's 1981 Oresteia. The Chorus of Old Men of Argos listens to Cassandra in Agamemnon, the first play of Aeschylus' Oresteia trilogy in Tony Harrison's version. It is tempting for the modern audience to identify with the chorus: they too are outsiders to the community observed, however the audience see and know more of the unfolding story than the chorus and can appreciate the dramatic irony of their words.
