The Kemble Amateur Dramatic Association was a late 19th century dramatic society, and this “souvenir programme” is for Defeated, an original play. An 1883 article in The Brooklyn Daily Eagle reports that one year later, The Kemble, voicing numerous complaints about the Academy, tried to raise money to erect a rival theater, and attempted to enlist the support of other Brooklyn dramatic and musical societies, such as The Amaranth, The Gilbert, and The Apollo.
