Program for the Apollo Club of Brooklyn

The Apollo Club was founded in Brooklyn Heights in 1878 as an amateur singing society for well-to-do men, though this program includes two female soloists. The cultured class was expected to have rudimentary musical training, and singing was a popular form of entertainment. The private club performed concert pieces, operatic pieces, and popular and patriotic songs.
