Fascinated by the way things grow from an early
age, Mori has developed her own signature sculptural forms using traditional blacksmithing techniques such as forging and hammering, mastered while studying at the Camberwell
College of Arts. She currently resides in the
remote countryside of North Wales’ Llyn Peninsula, immersed in nature’s inspirational milieu.
The sensitive use of steel creates a sculptural piece brimming with movement. Growing the form
through the repetition of hammering, thousands
of steel components are assembled piece by piece
in a recurring act that allows accidental nuances
to flourish. By giving her own creativity room
to breathe, the work grows almost like a mutation, transforming the cold, hard qualities of steel into something that appears more organic. An elegy to her technical virtuosity, the final object comes alive with vibrant energy.
