Following the Easter Rising 1916 and the resignation of theatre manager St. John G. Ervine, the Abbey Theatre closed for a period, re-opening in September 1916 under the management of J. Augustus Keogh. He programmed a series of Shaw productions including John Bull's Other Island, Widower's Houses and Arms and the Man. Actor and Easter Rising 1916 rebel Arthur Shields rejoined the Abbey company in October 1916 after his release from Frongoch prison camp, Wales. Detailed in this property list are the items that Shields would have carried on stage in his role as waiter in the play.
