Back to the time after World War II, the art of making workable prosthetics was still in its infancy. Foreign prosthetic models were then imported while some cash-rapped amputees made their own artificial legs. In Siriraj Hospital's first prosthetic factory known as "The Handicapped Support Foundation Building" was established. Those amputees who received the new limbs
would donate their old ones to the hospital. One eye-catching artificial leg was ingeniously created from a can. This prosthetic leg is now on display at Siriraj Bimuksthan Museum.
