Psalter, folio 7r

15th century, second half

The Library of Trinity College Dublin

The Library of Trinity College Dublin
Dublin, Ireland

The small size of this psalter indicates that it was likely created for personal use. Typical of psalter texts of this time, the opening Beatus (Blessed) initial B features the image of King David, biblical composer of the psalms, playing on a psaltery (harp). Two putti (nude infants, usually with wings) carrying a coat of arms are present at the bottom of the page within the elegantly decorated border.
