BTX terminals (BTX stands for "Bildschirmtext," meaning "screen text") were initially installed by the Bundespost for advertising purposes. Later they could be found in banks, post offices, train stations, and other public places. A pioneer in the development and manufacture of public BTX terminals was Standard Elektrik Lorenz AG (SEL). The recessed screen and embedded numerical keypad are the prominent features of this public BTX terminal. Both features were designed to protect the user's privacy.
