“During a trip to the Pueblo region of Arizona and New Mexico about 25 years ago,” writes Shirley P. Kelly, “I discovered a book on Hopi silversmithing by Margaret Nickelson Wright that identified the hallmarks used as signatures on the work. Choosing many which symbolized the weather, I enlarged and modified them to create the smaller designs. Baskets, jewelry, pottery, and woven rugs purchased for souvenirs inspired the larger designs.”
