Pumpkins are a type of squash. They grow on vines like their relatives, cucumbers and melons. Members of this plant family produce fruits that can be tiny or the largest in the world-including giant record-setters that weigh over 2,000 pounds. Squash have thick flesh and waxy skin in many colors such as yellow, orange, green and even blue.
