Embossed silver pointer used to follow the reading of the Torah during worship.
The shaft has grooves and inlays of red and white teardrop-shaped semi-precious stones. At one end it has a spherical container for perfumes (besamim), decorated with roses, acanthus leaves and a brief inscription in Hebrew.
It follows the typical typology of these elements, made of silver and ending in a hand with the index finger extended.
The function of the pointer or “yad” (a word that in Hebrew means “hand”) is to assist in reading without having to touch the sacred text, thus preventing it from being impure.
