Purple Satin Forehead Band Embroidered with Chrysanth

This embroidery is called Mei Le (forehead band). Worn between one's forehead and eyebrows to avoid messy hair, Mei Le is a long strap widely used by women during the Ming and the Qing dynasties. Among the scrolls that depict Emperor Yongzheng's twelve imperial concubines, two ladies wear Mei Le. On the purple satin in the center are color embroidered chrysanth motifs mainly made by satin stitch and slightly by couching stitch.
