This purse was made using a technique similar to that used to make reticella lace. One of the earliest forms of lace, reticella appeared on fashionable collars and cuffs during the early seventeenth century. Here metal wire has been coiled into tiny wheels to create a grid pattern held in place with green silk cord. The result is a relatively heavy purse that probably belonged to a man.
