Alexander' s Star, patented by Adam Alexander in 1982, found popularity as an intricate mechanical puzzle when it was released by the Ideal Toy Company in 1985. Ideal had previously made 3-D puzzles widely successful toys in the early 1980s with the introduction of the Rubik's Cube.
