The A.C. Gilbert Co. was best known for manufacturing Erector sets. But the company also produced many different examples of dexterity puzzles such as this. It is likely true that in 1945 just after the first atomic bombs were used in war, some toys reflected this event. This dexterity puzzle is one example. Contemporary knowledge of the effects and aftereffects of nuclear weapons make this game appear chilling. It is difficult to imagine a plaything like this today.
