Design teacher and puzzler Erno Rubik assembled his first cube puzzle in 1974. Ideal Toy & Novelty manufactured and marketed the puzzle, as Rubik's Cube, after 1980. A huge runaway success, the toy sold millions of copies in the early 1980s and has continued to sell ever since. Rubik's Cube is recognized as the best selling puzzle in history. After 2003, "speedcubing" events have been governed by the World Cube Association, a group devoted to fairness and fun. Official accessories and cube-related products are now licensed by Rubik's Cube, including a lighted version. Not to be confused with a lamp, this is an actual working puzzle that offers the option of bright, rechargeable LED light.
