On a hot summer day, cooling off in the backyard can require some ingenuity. Splashing in a sprinkler is one option. But, beginning in 1961, Wham-O offered the Slip 'n Slide, a strip of plastic that, when attached to your garden hose, turns into a water-lubricated runway for skidding across the lawn. This snapshot catches a girl in mid-stride as she prepares to take her turn at the fun.
