Strathfield, Australia

Apollo was a leader in the switch from hickory to steel golf shafts in the 1920s. Many golfers were suspicious of the metal shafts so manufacturers covered them to give the appearance of wood. Pyratone, a plastic-like material, was often used. Steel shafts were legalised in the US in 1924 and Great Britain in 1930.
