Images 3, 3_a, 4 and 4_a.11.68 show acceptance tests on the first batch of sputter-ion pumps which had arrived at CERN. Each pump must have demonstrated an ultimate pressure below 5 X 7(H1 torr before it was accepted. The pumps were fully encapsulated by bake-out ovens with water-cooling of the outer walls.
