Qasr al-Bint

Al-Hijr Archaeological Site (Madâin Sâlih)2008

UNESCO World Heritage

UNESCO World Heritage

Qasr al-Bint comprises two outcrops located to the west of the ritual area of Jabal Ithlib. The main, larger outcrop comprises some 29 tombs around three sides, with 19 on the western side alone. This includes an unfinished tomb, which would have been the largest façade in Hegra on completion. An inscription on one of the Qasr al-Bint tombs is significant as it resembles classical Arabic in its style and language. It dates to the era of the Roman province of Arabia, and represents an important step in the development of languages in AlUla and wider Arabia.
