Qing-dynasty Copper Scissors

This is a pair of copper ornamental scissors showing a distinctive design. Unlike common scissors, the finger bows and blades of this pair are not in symmetry. A rivet was used to fix together the two finger bows with different sizes and two blades in varied shapes, one long and slender while the other short and wide. Given that such kind of scissors were hat or garment ornaments in most cases, it is speculated that this pair had been tailor-made to go with a certain style of dressing, revealing the creativity of people in the Qing dynasty (1644-1912 AD) based on the combination of customs and aesthetics.
