The theme of Nils Christe’s ballet 'Quartet' is resignation. The powerless acceptance of the past things and the past times. Like the Dutch poet Jaques Bloem formulated in his poem ‘Quando ver venit menum’:

“Nimmermeer. Er is geen weerkomst van een gemist getij. Iedere dag is als de vorige onherroepelijk voorbij. Altijd zullen lenten kere, altijd zullen herfsten gaan. Tussen ongeboorne en doden flitst het menselijk bestaan. En wat blijft de machteloze tussen straks en nu en toen? ’t Onaanvaardbare te aanvaarden en het zwijgen ertoe doen.”

Freely translated:
“Never again. There is no recurrence of a missed tide. Every day like the last is irrevocably over. Springs and falls will come and go. Human existence flashes between the unborn and the dead. And what remains the powerless between later and now and then? "To accept the unacceptable and to remain silent."
