Quartzite side-scraper

The oldest scrapers appeared during the Lower Paleolithic. They are made from small pieces of pebbles or other stones or flakes. The use of these tools is related to work with leather or vegetable materials. They have one or more shaped edges, creating a regular, continuous sharp edge used to scratch, cut or scrape, similar to a knife. The marks found on some side-scrapers show that they were attached to a shaft with rope or leather.
