Queen Alexandra was a Danish princess who married the future Edward VII in 1863 when she was 18 years old. In this video, our experts examine a dress worn by Queen Alexandra in 1894 to the Christening of her grandson, the future Edward VIII. With leg of mutton sleeves, a high collar and a very cinched in waist, this dress features styles that were commonly found in Alexandra's wardrobe and soon became defining features of late Victorian style. But this dress is also incredibly fragile and has undergone careful conservation from HRP's conservators to preserve it for posterity.
