Created by the famous Irish sculptor, John Hughes, in 1908, the statue dominated the front garden of Leinster House near Merrion Square for fourteen years until it was moved to the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. In the eighties, the statue was relocated to the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney, Australia.
