Queen Victoria with the Duchess of Roxburghe at Melrose Abbey

Queen Victoria stayed for three days with the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe in September 1867 at Floors Castle. During this time, she and her hosts toured the local area visiting all the local sights, including the ruined Abbeys at Melrose, Dryburgh and Jedburgh. Her journey was featured in the Illustrated London News.
