Photograph of a section of Quinta do Bom Retiro Pequeno or Quinta do Serôdio. It is a patch of pre-phylloxera terraces located on the left bank of the Torto River, next to Quinta do Bom Retiro. Together they used to form one single property, whose history is documented since the 18th century, when it belonged to João Henrique de Magalhães. The estate currently belongs to the Symington Family Estates company.
In this set we highlight the scenic quality of the walls that follow the shape of the slope, incorporating the natural bluffs of the soil. In some places "pilheiros" are preserved, an old form of planting vines on the walls. The paths of the vineyard plots are flanked by olive and almond tree borders, which also mark the network of public paths that connected the villages of Valença do Douro and Casais do Douro.
