Description: Displayed in the exhibition organized for the 1600th anniversary of the Saint (1997), this work is characteristic of Vago’s abstract work, in which slight, obscure marks seem to appear out of the background of the canvas. The subject of the painting, St. Ambrose, is rendered symbolically here by the simplicity of the cross. The figure seems to emerge from the background, made almost evanescent in its blended gradation of color from yellow to blue. Currently not on display.
