This spoon has an ‘Old English' pattern terminal and was probably silver plated originally. It is impressed on the back CHIPPENDALE/OTLEY/SILVERMSITH. A newspaper advertisement of 1901 reputedly read: ‘David Chippendale, Watchmaker and Jeweller, Century Buildings, Westgate, Otley. All kinds of silver-plate, wedding rings etc. kept in stock. Repairs a speciality'. According to local tradition these spoons were given away to respected customers of the business.
