In 1897, Adolph Slaby participated in Marconi's radio experiments. In Germany he developed radio systems for the Navy. He used a coil in the receivers with wire length that was a quarter of the wavelength of the transmitter. At the end of this resonance coil, a maximum voltage is created on the receiver and the coherer responds better.
