Using image broadcasting, meteorological measurement data and observations could be sent in the form of daily weather maps for the first time. On receipt of the maps, they would be recorded on pre-printed forms. Previously, only telegraphy existed, which could only transmit texts and numbers. Precise knowledge of weather conditions was particularly important for shipping and air traffic, but newspaper editors and private subscribers were also interested in the current weather.
