A painting shows the court of King Dasarath from the Ramayana where he is appointing his successor as Rama, his son, a young prince. There are ten other priests seated in front of him on tiger skins, also a ‘agnigunda’ altar is in the foreground. There are other sages around him. This is a major event in the epic. The other princes, Laxmana, Bharata and Shatrughna are to his left. Gods seem to be watching this event. A Deccani painting from the 18 th century.
