Ramona Martinez
Political Leader
1943 -
INDUCTED 2010

Ramona Martinez was elected to the Denver City Council in 1987 where she served four terms and became the first Latina President.

Ramona Martinez, a fifth-generation Coloradoan, has worked tirelessly to ensure that women, minorities, and local businesses thrive. In spite of being a teen mother and high-school dropout in Denver’s West Side neighborhood, Martinez opened a successful business. She served on the National Committee of the Democratic Party for 16 years. Martinez now owns a political consulting firm and advocates for Latinas aspiring to run for political office.

“We’re spending billions of dollars on roads they’re blowing up in Afghanistan and our roads and our streets are going to heck. We’ve got to start focusing on our local communities.” — Ramona Martinez
