Ramona Martinez was elected to the Denver City Council in 1987 where she served four terms and became the first Latina President.
Ramona Martinez, a fifth-generation Coloradoan, has worked tirelessly to ensure that women, minorities, and local businesses thrive. In spite of being a teen mother and high-school dropout in Denver’s West Side neighborhood, Martinez opened a successful business. She served on the National Committee of the Democratic Party for 16 years. Martinez now owns a political consulting firm and advocates for Latinas aspiring to run for political office.
