Suit of armor, Japan, circa 1600 Rear view

Given to the Musée de l'Armée by the French National Library in the 19th century, this dômaru type armor, despite not bearing the prestigious signature of Iwai Yozaemon and despite it separating over time given its typology, decoration, and the quality of its lamellar construction, it is part of a movement very similar to this master, whose work clearly acquired the status of diplomatic gifts to be given as a gesture of honor to foreign sovereigns.
However, its color is almost exclusively golden, from the shin protectors up to the neck cover of the head protection, which distinguished it from most other Japanese suits of armor that had vibrant, layered colors to create rainbows. In order to ensure the realism of the armor, the fine moustache has been made from horsehair.
