"Receiving Day" was influenced by Martina Mcateer's experience of attending ceremonies like First Holy Communion. She expresses the sacred element of the very first experience of communing with the sacred. The receiving day of first receiving Christ and its significance is often underestimated.

The solemn religiosity is in the child's expression as well as purity of mystery. There is nothing feigned or affected about the child's gaze, which holds its own enigma. The birds are a symbol of love and of the natural order very much connected to the supernatural.
