This work depicts the disembarkation of the troops on the beach at Las Aguadas (Algeria) on June 29, 1732, during the Spanish reconquest of Oran. In the foreground, the Spanish cavalry march against the Algerians who are hastily retreating. In the sea, galleys protect the troops, made up of over 25,000 soldiers ready to disembark from the other vessels.
This oil painting is a copy, painted in 1994 by Manuel Calderón, of an original by Domenico Maria Sani (1690–1773). The original was the second in a series of 4 paintings by Sani depicting the same event, which belong to Spain's national heritage body, "Patrimonio Nacional."
