Two pieces of a reconstructed awl or hairpin manufactured from the long bone of a large mammal. Awl is very long with a tapered tip which shows quite a bit of polish. Most of the center of the awl is eroded, however a few intact edges appear polished. The distal end also appears to be highly polished. This awl was recovered from a narrow walled adobe pithouse located in a habitation area of the Pueblo Grande site. Pueblo Grande was a large village located at the headgates of a major canal system. Occupied as early as AD 500, the site reached its greatest extent during the Classic Period. Museum Accession: 1996.17
