Reconstructed Smudged Gila Redware Bowl

Reconstructed smudged Gila Redware bowl. Red slipped exterior surface has visible variations in color, fireclouds, and patterned polishing striations. Exterior surface is also marked by abrasions, with spalling below one portion of rim. Interior surface is smudged black and exhibits patterned polishing striations. Analysis sheets indicate that granodiorite, a type of stone, from South Mountain was used as temper. This bowl was recovered from a post-reinforced pithouse located within Habitation Area 3 of the Pueblo Grande site. Pueblo Grande was a large village site located at the headgates of a major canal system occupied as early as AD 500, reaching its greatest size during the Classic Period. Museum Accession: 1996.17
