The Supremes, featuring Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, and Florence Ballard, were at the top of their recording success in 1966 when they released "The Supremes a Go-Go," one of Motown's greatest dance releases ever. Rivaling even the Beatles for their broad commercial appeal, the Supremes brought the Motown sound to Middle America, reeling off an extraordinary five #1 hits in a row. "Where Did Our Love Go" went to #1 in 1964, along with "Baby Love," "Stop! In the Name of Love," "Come See About Me," and "Back in My Arms Again." "Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart" on "The Supremes a Go-Go" - one of only two Supremes LPs to stay on top of the charts for more than one week - set the stage for another run of #1 hits in 1966. The top Motown songwriting team of Brian Holland, Eddie Holland, and Lamont Dozier wrote "Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart" and every other top single the Supremes recorded. The team also produced similar gems for such Motown greats as the Four Tops, the Isley Brothers, and Martha and the Vandellas.
